DAY 1

So the government spending cuts have been announced and the protests have begun, not many seem to be happy over the unfair decision that was unveiled by George Osbourne a few days ago. Surely this has not made my life any easier, I mean earlier this year I completed my degree and am currently looking for work within the Fashion industry which I’ve got to say is so much more harder than I imagined it to be, especially when I live in a city like Leicester.

Whilst looking for work day after day and not getting anywhere, I am determined to keep working on my portfolio, working on various different types of assignments to have a selection of work within my portfolio, to show a range of skills, this would also mean when I get the opportunity to present my work to an employer it will be up to date with the latest fashion trends.

A graduate living in a society where unemployment is on the rise, has without a doubt made finding work exceptionally hard and this meant I don’t have funds to satisfy my needs and wants. In addition to this there is so much I need to buy but I just cannot afford to. Since I am a Hindu, and Diwali, our religious festival of light is on its way, in fact it’s here in just over a week. For the festival I would like to buy a new saree but since I do not have the funds to buy it, I have no choice other than to wear one of my saree from the wardrobe, which I’m not really pleased about, plus the blouses no longer fits me so that doesn’t help at all. Even though this is quite frustrating this has given me a great idea and a new portfolio project to complete with 7days, yes that means I will be designing and manufacturing a blouse for my saree which will be inspired by the latest saree trends, but there is so much to do, I mean from researching the trends, designing, choosing the final design, choosing the fabric, moodboard, design board, technical board, making the toile and lastly making the final garment and this has to be done in 7 days or within 7 days, this project is going to be a challenge and since it’s something unusual to what I normally do, it surely will be an exciting project. Looks like my next step will be to make a focused action plan.
